Applied Kinesiology
Applied kinesiology (AK) is a procedure used to assess health through the understanding of the connection of muscle activity and the body. It is a form of diagnosis using muscle testing as a primary feedback mechanism to examine how a person's body is functioning.
When properly applied, the outcome of an AK diagnosis will determine the best form of therapy for the patient. Since AK draws together the core elements of many complementary therapies, it provides an interdisciplinary approach to health care. An evaluation typically begins with a resistance test to review muscle strength to discover weaknesses in various areas of the body. Muscle weakness (revealed through the interconnection of muscle, gland, and organ systems), may indicate a bodily dysfunction. Options to restore overall balance and wellbeing may include manual manipulation, such as repositioning the muscles through massage or pressure, or adding specific nutrients to an individual's diet, among other options.
