Belly Dance
Belly Dance is an art form originating in the Middle East, and has gained popularity in the West not only for its sensual beauty, but as a form of regular exercise. Belly dancing provides both physical and mental benefits. The dance form focuses on core muscles, provides a good cardio-vascular workout, and often emphasizes the isolation of muscles, such as arm, shoulder, thigh and abdomen groups.
As a non-impact, weight-bearing exercise, it can burn as many calories as swimming or light jogging, with surprisingly minimal impact on knees and feet. It can also provide a sense of empowerment and self-confidence, and there is the additional mental benefit of belly dance simply being fun.
