NEW YORK, February 13, 2010 — This time of the year is a great time to think about our hearts. We are all familiar with Valentine’s Day and showing those people in our lives how much we love and care about them, but do we ever think about loving and caring for ourselves? How well do we care for our own hearts?

There are many factors that contribute to the well-being of our hearts. In the complementary, alternative, and integrative medicine (CAIM) field the buzz words are mind, body and spirit. I’m sure your everyday life experiences can support an example from each of these.

When your mind is racing you may begin to feel anxious and can have trouble breathing, and/or feel sharp pains in your chest area. The medical terms for these are Anxiety and Angina. Quieting your mind is a good place to start taking care of your heart.

Most of us have heard about the “body” risk factors for an unhealthy heart. Some of these are being overweight or obese, having high cholesterol (Hypercholesterolemia), smoking tobacco or being exposed to other people’s use of tobacco, having high blood pressure, having Diabetes, and/or being physically inactive. Improving the health of the rest of your body is one of the best ways to keep your heart healthy.

When your mind and body are under stress it is possible to lose your spirit. Your passion for the things and people in your life that are important to you may decrease or be lost. You may think you have been deserted or let down by the power in your life that keeps you going. Sometimes people refer to this as “heartache.” The physical manifestations of mind and spirit are very real and are an excellent reminder for us to keep them healthy as well as our physical bodies.

Utilizing HealthSourceNow.com to find practitioners in your area is the perfect way to help your mind, body and spirit support a healthy heart and having a healthy heart will help you to share your love this Valentine’s Day and many more to come!
